AS & A2 Level
Length of Course: AS One-year, which can be extended to the full A Level by completing the second year.

Description of Course:
Photography includes artwork in film, video and digital imaging. Invariably, the techniques of the different disciplines are used to convey messages and create works in other graphic disciplines, such as television advertisements and the use of photographic images in magazine advertisements. Work in photography should form a means of personal enquiry and expression involving the selection and manipulation of images. You must employ creative approaches which go beyond mere observation and recording.

There are 2 or 4 units to be followed, depending on the path chosen at either AS or full A Level:-

AS

Unit 1
Practical Outcomes
Supporting studies
Researching, recording, analysing and reviewing.
Historical investigation. Developing ideas. Experimenting with digital/traditional camera techniques/methods media, developing and applying lens based skills. Creating and presenting outcomes.

Unit 2
Externally Set Assignment
(follows same process as Unit 1 with timed practical outcome)

A2

Unit 3
Personal Study Integrated images and texts including a written element of no less than 1000 words.

Practical Creative Response - consists of a body of work from a student selected or negotiated focus

Unit 4
Externally Set Assignment
Supporting studies and timed practical outcome

Possible Career Pathways:
Courses relating to the media, newspapers, artwork and people/communications industries.
