Description of Course: |
This subject takes a multi-disciplinary approach to dance, drama and music and how they unite in performance to make Performing Arts. It would be helpful to have GCSE in drama, music or dance but its not essential if you have a desire to learn about performing skills. At least a Grade C in GCSE English is essential. This subject goes well with Drama & Theatre Studies, Media Studies, Dance, Music Technology, Photography, Sociology, Psychology, English Language and/or Literature.
The units for AS are:-
Unit 1: Creating Performance
You study main elements of dance, drama and music and how they work together. You create and perform a short piece in each discipline. You also devise and perform a longer piece that combines an element of all three art forms and has a community focus. You are assessed on a written commentary on the practical work plus your performance skills in integrated community piece (70%).
Unit 2: Performance Contexts 1
You study a work by a choreographer (Matthew Bourne) by a playwright (John Godber) and composers (The Beatles) as a means of studying a broad range of work. You are assessed by a two hour written exam in which you choose two of the three works studied (30%).
The two units covered for the A2 are:-
Unit 3: Performance Contexts 2
You study Politics and Performance since 1914, through extracts from at least nine works in dance, drama and music. You are assessed by a two hour written paper which will deal with the context of the politics and performance as a genre cross the year (15%).
Unit 4: Performance Project - this unit is assessed by a visiting examiner
You undertake two performances:-
i) a performance realisation of one work studied in either Performance Contexts 1 or 2 (10%)
ii) a student devised integrated arts piece from a commission provided by OCR (25%) |
