Description of Course: |
The Edexcel AS GCE in Music Technology is aimed at providing a satisfactory one-year course of post-16 study in music technology for any of the following:
A Students who have studied music at GCSE level.
B Students with a music theory/performance qualification at Level 2.
C Students that have an interest in the industry of commercial/popular music, whose prior learning, performing or composing experience would suggest that they are able to pursue a course leading to a recognised Level 3 qualification.
The course provides opportunities to embrace recent developments in the field and involves much practical work which encourages the cultivation of a wide range of skills. You will have opportunities to sequence MIDI, sequence audio, record live instruments, produce CDs and compose using music technology. At AS Level you will produce an audio CD entitled Music Technology Portfolio 1, containing three tracks of work as specified in three tasks. You will also present a logbook and sit a listening examination. The A2 builds on skills acquired in AS, and extends these to include a composition task. You will also study in depth The Development of Technology-based Music. You must complete three tasks, which together make the Music Technology Portfolio 2. This will include a Sequenced Integrated performance, Multi-track Recording and two compositions using Music Technology. You will also submit a logbook, which will provide information on the resources used in each task.

| There are many important opportunities in Higher Education, and many career possibilities for those proficient in handling music technology. GCE in Music Technology has been widely accepted by HE providers and this Music Technology Advanced GCE will continue to provide valuable experience and preparation for student aiming for HE in the subject. Music technology careers could include work as a sound engineer, record producer or teacher. |
