Length of Course: AS One-year, which can be extended to the full A Level by completing the second year.
A2 Two years.
Examination Board:

AQA

Description of Course:
The AS must be taken before the A2. Both are year-long courses. You should be aware that your AS result is carried forward as 50% of your A2 course.

The course aims to provide candidates with a knowledge and understanding of Physical, Human and Environmental Geography. Both the AS and A2 courses have two units of study.

The course is as practical as possible with fieldwork integrated throughout the two years.

AS
Unit 1: Physical Environments and Human Geography
Unit 2: Skills and fieldwork

A2
Unit 3: Contemporary issues
Unit 4: Fieldwork or investigation

Possible Career Pathways:
The breadth of knowledge and variety of skills leads to a recognised entry qualification to both Arts and Science courses in Further and Higher Education, and is valued by a wide range of employers. It is particularly valued in business management, transport industries, local government and retailing. Specialisation in Geography can lead to careers in surveying, planning and any with an environmental connection.

Further Advice:
Full commitment is needed, as the course requires at least as much individual work at home as class teaching time. A keen interest, an enquiring mind and a good essay writing style are essential in order to achieve A-C grades. Further details available from Geography staff at your school.
